About

Sure, you could be forgiven for thinking that the images you are looking at are kind of throw away: the sort of pop art you might have found scrawled in the back of a second- hand Top of The Pops Annual circa 1977. But Rose Stallard's illustrations are a lot more than just an irreverent paean to the overblown lycra-clad world of seventies rock. Viewed from another perspective, they represent the heartfelt signposts of at least one generation's kickback against the man.

Every single logo, icon and accoutrement Rose draws, from Big Muffs and tattered Converse to Flying V guitars, are a genuine celebration of every kid out there who once plastered their school exercise books in intricate Biro portraits of Kiss and Marc Bolan. The same kids who are now drawing Kate Moss and Marilyn Manson every Maths lesson and indulging in the kind of cross gender iconography that says more about teenage rebellion and sexual freedom than a thousand sociological treatises ever could.
